GOTD – Snake Rattle ‘n Roll

Snake Rattle ‘n Roll – Action (NES)
RARE

One of the lesser-known multiplayer games on the NES was a quirky 3-d isometric platformer – the oddly-named Snake Rattle ‘n Roll.

Although not a wonderful game, its sense of humor is certainly there – this game doesn’t take itself seriously, which is a wonderful thing at times.
Your goal is simply to keep advancing by eating food which takes the form of 3 colors of balls, which grow appendages based on the stage – from springs to wings – and become increasingly more difficult to eat thereby.

You will avoid razors, giant feet, sharks, and all kinds of other enemies on your way. These will either kill you outright or ‘damage’ you – taking away some of the weight you’ve gained. Since the primary way to advance is by weighing enough to set off a scale in each stage, you want to avoid this.

The game is also filled with secrets, most of which are not too hard to find.

Try it with a friend, too. Lots of fun cooperatively. It’s enjoyable, even when you’re getting hit by the spikes. Aaaaarrrrrgg…
